Remodel survey
A partial renovation, such as a kitchen remodel, needs a survey of that area only. The inspector samples the materials your project will disturb, and a copy of the report must be kept at the job until the work is done.

Asbestos testing tells you, before anyone cuts, whether a ceiling, floor, wall or roof contains asbestos. In Oregon only an accredited inspector can carry out the survey and write the report. We bring one in, have the materials in your work area sampled and use the lab results to plan any removal.
Hillsboro built nearly half its housing during the 1990s and 2000s. Oregon’s survey rule still covers any home built before 2004, so a house from the 1990s needs one too. We test in Hillsboro, Forest Grove and Cornelius.

A partial renovation, such as a kitchen remodel, needs a survey of that area only. The inspector samples the materials your project will disturb, and a copy of the report must be kept at the job until the work is done.
A full demolition or an extensive renovation needs a survey of the whole structure, from roofing and siding to caulk and window glazing.
No lab at all is also an option: presume the material contains asbestos and handle it that way from the start. You save the wait for results and accept the stricter handling.
Oregon sets minimums for what a survey samples.
Every suspect material gets at least one bulk sample. Sprayed or troweled surfacing, like popcorn texture, needs at least three from each area.
Since November 2018, labs cannot blend layers into one result, so each layer of a floor gets its own answer. Joint compound, tape and wallboard may be tested together as one wall system.
If you live in the home you are remodeling, DEQ lets you take a sample yourself. Mist the material first, take a piece about two inches square and seal it in its own container. Demolition always needs an accredited inspector.

Positive result? See popcorn ceiling removal or floor tile removal, or go back home.
